Once you have a cat, one important product you must purchase is a cat litter box because you do not want your cat doing its business all over your house. It is vitally important that your cat has a specific box where it can do its business, and that you purchase a box that negates the smell as much as possible.
Unfortunately, once your cat has used the litter box, the smell could permeate around your home. My favourite box is the PetSafe ScoopFree Original Self-Cleaning Litter Box. It disposes of your cat’s waste in a hygienic way and because it contains blue crystals it soaks up the urine and prevents the smell of the litter escaping into the air.
The product lasts a long time, the crystals having to be replaced every thirty days, but when you think about the cost of cat litter per week, it is a very favourable alternative. This product is well worth the extra money in my opinion and even comes with a two-year warranty.
Although the cost of this box is expensive compared to others on the market, purchasing this item is an especially great idea for people who suffer from illnesses which are exacerbated by the cat litter because the need to get too close to it is removed. This really is a great product.
Mid-Range Boxes
If you do not want to purchase the PetSafe ScoopFree Litter Box, another great option is the PawHut Litter Box, which, although it is not self-cleaning like the box I mentioned above, is well made and is a great product.
It contains a removable tray so that the old litter can be disposed of quickly and conveniently, and comes complete with a litter scoop, refuse bags and a sterilisation and deodorisation mat. It even has a compartment where you can store any items.
As this product comes with additional items, it is more economical because it diminishes the need to purchase extra products. The overall size of this litter box is 54L x 42W x 41H and is 2.88kg in weight.
Another option in this price range is the Catit Box, which is perfect for a household with larger cats or people with more than one cat. Its swing flap and carbon filter mean that the smell of the litter cannot escape from the box.
The cover can be removed so you can access the inside of the box, and you can secure the waste bag to the front of the box so that you can scoop out the waste quickly and easily. It also has a handle on the top so that you can carry it with ease. The dimensions of the box are roughly 18” high, 19” length, and 19” wide.
Budget boxes
Some people do not think an expensive cat litter box is necessary, and that is a perfectly understandable opinion. I know there are boxes out there that can perform adequately and are relatively cheap in comparison to the boxes I have mentioned above. If you do not suffer from any illness, or only have one cat, a budget litter box is probably all you will ever need.
One box in this category that I can recommend is the Cat Centre Box, which has high sides. A perpetual box self-cleaning system is created by using two pans and a sift, which diminishes the need to scoop out the litter.
It is recommended that you purchase clumping cat litter to use with this box because as the cat urinates in the box, the litter solidifies, while the fresh litter falls through to the lower tray. Because of this system, less litter is used, making it much easier to clean and more economical.
Another great product is the Rotho Litter Box, which has a deep tray so your cat has plenty of room, and also has a removable lid so that the tray can be easily cleaned, saving you plenty of time.
As this box contains a carbon filter, smells from the box are less likely to permeate into the atmosphere and around your home. It can be easily transported using the handle, but please bear in mind that the box must be empty before transporting it in this fashion. If your cats have a problem using the box door, this can easily be removed.
The Imac srl Premium Litter Tray is also a great product in this price range. It has carbon filters so that the smell from the litter cannot escape, and also comes with an additional filter. It comes complete with a two-way swing door which can be removed if your cat does not like using it, and a scoop is also included, decreasing the need to purchase additional items. The box can also be carried easily when required.
Conclusion
There are many litter boxes on the market, and as tempting as it is to go and buy a litter tray from your local pet store, I would recommend you purchase a litter box offering greater protection for you and your cat, especially when it comes to the smell that can be generated from the box.
You want to purchase a box that can negate the smell from the box as much as possible. For me, I’ll stick to the more expensive products – they are better value for money in the long run in my opinion.
